Access in Scotland


There is now new legislation giving you a statutory right of responsible access. This is to give you more freedom to enjoy the countryside. The Scottish Outdoor Access Code explains what responsible access means.

From the open spaces in our towns to the remote and wild areas of land and water in the Galloway Hills, Scotland’s outdoors provides great opportunities for open-air recreation, enjoyment and education. Scotland has outstanding natural beauty and a strong tradition of access.

The Scottish Outdoor Access Code explains what responsible access means. It also gives land managers helpful information about how to welcome visitors onto their land.

Team

The members of the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team are local men and women who give up their time to assist others in times of emergency. We are all volunteers and receive no payment or retainer fee.
