Press Officer

Introducing Mike Kneeshaw

We recognise the importance of keeping the public informed about our activities as we understand that search and rescue work generates significant interest across the communities in Dumfries and Galloway and beyond.  With this in mind, we have a Press Officer on our committee who is responsible for circulating regular press releases to the local newspapers, ITV Border, BBC Scotland, West Sound Radio and a number of other print and online media resources. Such news stories might relate to our recent call-outs, fund raising activities and significant training events. In addition, the Press Officer is responsible for maintaining this website and ensuring that the content is both up to date and informative.  We pride ourselves in providing a responsive and professional search and rescue service and by keeping people informed about our recent activities we hope to spread the word beyond our operational boundaries. Recent high level news stories have included: The opening of our new base in Newton Stewart (Oct '12) Our deployment during significant flooding across Galloway and in particular Newton Stewart and the River Cree (Nov '12) The 'Big Snow of 2013' when the team responded to 17 calls in 3 days (Mar '13) The 1,100 mile SWNE Scotland Charity Cycle fund raising event involving three of our team members (Jul '13) We recently joined the social media world of Facebook, where we try to maintain a regular interactive relationship with our followers, posting stories, photographs and links to information we believe you might be interested in.  You can 'Like' and follow our feed at Facebook.com/gallowaymrt We are also proud to be part of the ever expanding DGWGO family and post regular blogs on their website at www.dgwgo.com.  DGWGO is an increasingly popular portal for 'all things Dumfries and Galloway' operated by a group of unpaid enthusiasts who are immensely passionate about this small south west corner of Scotland.
