Callouts and Incidents

Since the team formed in 1976 we have been involved in over 430 incidents. Most of these have been searching for missing persons, both in the Galloway Hills and on low lying areas, but have also included responding to medical emergencies, floods and other severe weather conditions.  Including: six aircraft crashes assisting the Scottish Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard helping stranded householders and motorists during severe snow storms aiding police searches urban and rural recovering crag fast casualties mountain bike accidents

Galloway Base

The majority of our callouts are managed from our Rescue Base in Newton Stewart. Opened in 2012, the former ambulance station was funded by the Order of St John Scotland. We also have a secondary rescue post at Castle Douglas Police Station.

Our Rescue Fleet

Our Land Rover and Incident Control Vehicle are based at Newton Stewart and we have a VW Caravelle Synchro 4x4 personnel carrier at Castle Douglas.
