 Merrick Challenge Event 2003

In June 2003, Team members joined forces with Police Officers from Galloway Division, and along with their friends and families mounted a challenge to serve a three course dinner for the 31 intrepid walkers on top of the Merrick. The Merrick, at 843 metres, is the highest peak in our area and with the support of 4X4 quad bikes, the caterers attempted the precarious trip to the summit.
Regrettably, due to a severe technical problem with one of the bikes, the venue for the dinner had to be changed to the nearby Bennan Hill.

  • The team were well rewarded for their efforts and a total of £1530 was raised for team funds. Our thanks go to our friends at Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary and to the following businesses who helped in one way or another - 'The Brigend Cafe', 'The Gift Horse at Hendersons', 'Costcutters' and 'Dine by Helen', all Newton Stewart; 'The Walled Garden Caravan Park', Maybole.
A great day was had by all .......... and it perhaps leaves the challenge open for another year!!
