The Team Land Rover was involved in an accident
whilst returning from a night exercise in December
2002.
Fortunately
no one was seriously hurt but the land rover
was extensively damaged and, it was feared,
would be written off. The Team was faced with
the daunting prospect of having to raise between
£20000 - £30000 for a replacement.
The insurers,
Norwich Union, generously agreed to fund the
difference between the costs for repairs and
the market value of the damaged vehicle.
Over the
next five months Border Cars in Dumfries rebuilt
the land rover with only the bonnet and back
door from the original coachwork able to be
reused.
The
land rover was returned to the team on 15th
May 2003. Eleven days later it was used
in a successful search over rough forest roads
for a missing person near Carsphairn.
