 Open Day 2004

STROAN BRIDGE, GLENTROOL
Sunday 13th June 2004

Stroan Bridge near Glentrool was the venue for our Open Day and Fundraising Day Event. The weather was good, if not perfect, but the Visitor Centre was an ideal location for us to display our work to the public.

Adults and children equally enjoyed the 'taster' events available and the ethos of the event was very definately the 'Great Outdoors' with fun and activities on hand for all the family.

The climbing wall experience, provided courtesy of Dumfries and Galloway Council, Leisure and Sport, proved to be particularly popular. The two photographs show a challenge between team member Iain H and the equipment supervisor. A young potential rock climber also participated in another challenge.

Others enjoyed the 'wayfaring' orienteering 'taster' session set up by team member Steve K which was designed for families to particilate in as a group and for the younger members to demonstrate their map reading and clue finding skills.

Fine weather, fresh air and activity always blend to create a health hunger, and the tasty delights cooked on the barbeque by Ken and Margaret McC and Rosie K were clearly enjoyed by everyone.

Our McInnes stretcher is discussedWe were keen to display our work in the community and to allow the public a unique opportunity to see how our equipment is used in rescue situations around Galloway. It was encouraging to see the interest shown by the public. Team member Mike B is seen here discussing the use of one of our McInness stretchers.

Another popular member of the team was actually retired SARDA (Souther Scotland) resuce dog - Ben. Search dogs are forever popular with children but Ben seemed pretty untroubled by the experience. Two young supporters are seen here speaking with their new found canine friend.

The Forestry Commission Visitor Centre is an idillic location for a family afternoon and visitors took time to ramble the waymarked trails starting and finishing at the visitor centre.

All in all a very successful afternoon and enjoyed by everyone who ventured into the Great Outdoors.

If you would like to meet Galloway MRT you can do so by visiting one of the upcoming events featured in our Whats On page.
